More than a thousand houses in Kyiv are still without heating after targeted Russian attacks

More than 1,000 apartment buildings in Kyiv remain without heating after a massive Russian attack caused heat and water blackouts for thousands of residents. The authorities are working on restoration, but the situation is worsened by strong frosts.

More than 1,000 apartment buildings in the Ukrainian capital Kiev are still without heating as a result of this week’s devastating Russian attack, local authorities announced on Sunday. Reuters drew attention to it, writes TASR.

Russian attacks on Kyiv on Friday night damaged the Ukrainian capital’s critical infrastructure, leaving half of the apartment buildings, nearly 6,000, without heat. The city also experienced outages in its water supply.

Deliveries are being renewed

The local authorities only restored the water supply on Sunday, and partially also managed to restore the electricity and heating supplies.

“Restoration work continues. However, the situation regarding energy supplies in the capital remains very difficult,” Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said on the Telegram platform. According to him, severe frosts will continue to complicate the situation in the Ukrainian capital in the coming days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Russia had sent 1,100 drones, more than 890 guided aerial bombs and more than 50 missiles, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and medium-range missiles, to Ukraine in the past week.

Targeted attacks on civilians

According to Zelensky, Russia deliberately waited for the freezing weather to worsen the situation for the Ukrainian people. The president declared that it was “cynical Russian terror aimed specifically at civilians.” Moscow did not immediately respond to his comments.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that Russian forces again attacked the country’s energy infrastructure on Sunday night and temporarily cut off electricity supplies in the Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions.

Constant attacks on infrastructure

“Not a single day passed this week without attacks on energy facilities and critical infrastructure. A total of 44 attacks were recorded,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenkova said on Telegram.
