Rights violations continue in Venezuela, says professor

In an interview with CNNprofessor of International Relations at the Mauá Institute of Technology Flávia Loss commented that the situation in Venezuela is unstable and that rights violations continue to occur in the country even after the arrest of dictator Nicolás Maduro by the United States last week.

“There are reports from several NGOs of arrests due to political problems, that is, of people from the opposition, after the rise of Delcy Rodríguez as interim president,” said the professor.

For the professor, the Venezuelan scenario remains without the slightest prediction that democracy and the rule of law will be restored. “We cannot forget that no general or minister was removed. We have the same structure as the Maduro government”, he highlighted.

American intervention and political impasse

The expert also commented on the South American country. “This invasion by the United States, which did not actually place an army in Venezuela, is illegal. This sets a precedent for the failure to establish democratic normality,” he stated.

Loss spoke about the lack of a clear plan for . “There is a gentlemen’s agreement between and this is not enough for the administration of a country in such a difficult situation,” he said.

According to the professor, opposition leaders to Maduro have no chance of taking power. “María Corina Machado is an outsider, as is Edmundo Gonzalez. It is more convenient for the United States for Delcy to be president, she can manage the country because she has the support of the armed forces”, he concluded.
