Forest fires in Patagonia trigger serious environmental crisis

Severe forest fires are raging in the Patagonia region in southern Argentina, which is popular with tourists. It is one of the worst environmental crises that the Chubut province has ever experienced, said Governor Ignacio Torres on the radio station Radio Miter. “Every year there are fires, whether accidental or intentional, but now each fire is growing exponentially and is very difficult to control,” Torres said. In addition, the region is currently experiencing “the worst drought since 1965”.
