In the early evening of Sunday (January 11), a traffic accident occurred at the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing in the Sobrance district, in which the driver of a truck with a semi-trailer was driving under the influence of alcohol. In the parking lot, he hit a parked semi-trailer, which moved after the impact and damaged the concrete fence of the parking lot. TASR was informed about this by Jana Illésová, the spokeswoman of the Regional Directorate of PZ in Košice.

The driver was subjected to a breath test with a positive result of 1.63 per thousand. No other persons were injured in the accident, but property was damaged. “The police investigator from Michalovsk has started a criminal prosecution for the crime of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance, and charges will be brought in the matter,” the spokeswoman said, adding that the driver ended up in a pre-trial detention cell.
The police added that they will continue to intensively monitor alcohol and other addictive substances. “The police once again draw attention to the extreme danger of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, especially in the case of trucks and heavy vehicles, which have an incomparably higher destructive potential in the event of an accident,” added Illésová.
