Lula congratulates ‘The Secret Agent’ victory at the Golden Globes: ‘Long live Brazilian cinema’

According to Lula, the award represents the strengthening of national cinema on the global stage. “Long live Brazilian cinema, which continues to be synonymous with pride on the world’s main stages,” he wrote. The president also highlighted the work of director Kleber Mendonça Filho and the film’s cast.

In the message, Lula mentioned the actors Wagner Moura, Tânia Maria, Alice Carvalho, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Hermila Guedes, Gabriel Leone and Carlos Francisco. For the president, the work “writes another chapter in the history of Brazilian cinema”.

Lula also stated that The Secret Agent contributes to preserving the country’s memory by addressing the violence of the military dictatorship period and the resistance of Brazilian society. “It’s an essential film so that this past is not forgotten,” he said.

The first lady also spoke out on social media. In a post on Instagram, Janja highlighted the symbolic impact of the award. “Agente Secreto honors the memory of our country and reinforces Brazilian audiovisual as a global reference”, he stated.

The Secret Agent became the first Brazilian film to receive three Golden Globe nominations.
