Meta () announced the hiring of Dina Powell McCormick, former advisor to the president of the United States, for a senior management position focused on partnerships with governments and investors in the area of artificial intelligence (AI).
Dina, who left Meta’s board in December, now assumes the role of president and vice-president of the company. She will be responsible for guiding the overall strategy, with a special focus on Meta’s AI infrastructure projects, according to a statement released this Monday. The former Goldman Sachs () executive will help build and maintain strategic partnerships to raise funds that will finance large data center projects and drive the company’s advances in artificial intelligence.
“Dina’s knowledge at the highest levels of the global financial market, together with her wide network of contacts, makes her the ideal person to help Meta drive this new phase of growth,” said , CEO of Meta.
Dina already knows Meta well. She joined the company’s board in April last year, but left unexpectedly eight months later. Now, she will report directly to Zuckerberg.
Meta has invested heavily in AI infrastructure, seeking to develop “superintelligence” systems — capable of outperforming humans in various tasks. The company is building several giant data centers across the country, including one in rural Louisiana that Trump estimated would cost $50 billion. Meta plans to expand this data center to 5 gigawatts, a structure almost the size of Manhattan. Recently, the company also announced partnerships with energy companies to become one of the largest corporate buyers of nuclear energy in the world.
Zuckerberg has pledged to invest $600 billion in infrastructure over the next few years, and Meta is already seeking billions in external financing to help fund these projects.

Dina will help coordinate these efforts and secure more resources for upcoming investments. She has decades of financial market experience, including 16 years at Goldman Sachs, where she led investment banking for governments around the world. Before arriving at Meta, he was president and head of global client service at BDT & MSD Partners, an investment company. She will leave this company, but will remain on the advisory board.
Furthermore, Dina has close ties to the Trump administration, which has shown increasing interest in infrastructure projects in the US. She was deputy national security advisor in Trump’s first term and also worked under George W. Bush. Her husband, Dave McCormick, is a Republican senator from Pennsylvania.
Trump even congratulated her in a post on the social network Truth Social, praising her work in the administration.

Meta is in a race with other technology giants, such as OpenAI, Microsoft () and Oracle (), to develop AI infrastructure. Elon Musk, with his company xAI, is also investing heavily and recently announced a third data center near Memphis, Tennessee, with an investment of US$20 billion.
