The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, decided to ban diplomats and other representatives of Iran from entering the premises of the European assembly.
The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, decided this Monday to ban diplomats and other representatives of Iran from entering the premises of the European assembly, stressing that the institution “will not contribute to legitimizing” the current Iranian regime.
“Everything cannot be as if nothing had happened. While the courageous people of Iran continue to fight for their rights and freedom, I took the decision today to ban all diplomatic staff and any other representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran from entering the premises of the European Parliament”, announced the president of the institution via the social network X.
“This assembly will not contribute to legitimizing this regime that is maintained through torture, repression and murder“, said Roberta Metsola, at a time when there is a wave of protests motivated by discontent with the economic situation, the lack of civil liberties and social and political repression, which has already resulted in hundreds of deaths, injuries and arrests.
