"The Pitt" and "Adolescence" dominate television awards at the Golden Globes

HBO Max’s ‘The Pitt’ won Best Drama Series, with Noah Wyle winning for Best Actor. The big surprise was Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’, which dominated the miniseries category. Several actors took advantage of the red carpet for political protests against ICE.

“The Pitt” is the Best Drama Series of the year and “Adolescence” won almost everything in the Miniseries category at the 83rd edition of the Golden Globes, which took place this morning in Los Angeles.

The HBO Max medical drama won in a category that included “The White Lotus”, “Severance”, “Pluribus”, “Slow Horses” and “The Diplomat” and gave Noah Wyle the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

“I benefited from excellent teachers”, said the actor, who was very grateful and flattered by the distinction in his victory speech. “To all the health workers in the world, thank you,” he added.

Producer R. Scott Gemmill also highlighted the work of emergency medical professionals, calling them heroes.

“We live in a very divided country and world, but cinema brings us together not just as an audience but as a community”, he said, on stage. “When we work together with decency, humanity and respect for others it is an incredible thing,” he added.

The other series that came out of the Beverly Hilton as a big winner was Netflix’s “Adolescence”, not only considered Best Miniseries but also securing three acting awards: Best Actor for Stephen Graham, Best Supporting Actress for Erin Doherty and Best Supporting Actor for Owen Cooper.

“This doesn’t seem real,” said the young actor, just 16 years old.

“It’s been an incredible journey for me and my family,” he said. “I continue to learn every day,” he continued.

In the drama category, Rhea Seehorn won the Globe for Best Actress for her role in the series “Pluribus”, a new feature on Apple TV that has drawn praise from critics.

The actress was surprised when she heard her name and said she was “a little shocked”, thanking Vince Gilligan for writing “the role of a lifetime” for her.

In the comedy, “The Studio” surpassed one of the favorites, “Hacks”, and Seth Rogen took home the statuette for Best Actor.

“It’s really weird. We pretended we were doing this and now it’s happening,” Rogen said, laughing, alluding to one of the episodes of the Apple TV series.

Conversely, “The White Lotus” did not win any statuette, despite six nominations.

Protests against the ICE agency

Before the ceremony, some actors used the red carpet to take political stances, using ‘pins’ against the United States immigration agency ICE.

This was the case with Mark Ruffallo, Wanda Sykes, Natasha Lyonne, Jean Smart and Ariana Grande. The messages, “ICE Out” and “Be Good” were tributes to Renee Good, a US citizen who was shot and killed three times by the immigration agency in Minneapolis.
