The threat on the roads endangers both drivers and pedestrians: SHMÚ warns especially in this part of Slovakia!

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) warns against the formation of ice, especially in the western part of Slovakia. It also warns of snowfall or low temperatures. He therefore issued warnings of the first and second degree. SHMÚ informed about it on its website.

Level 2 frost warnings apply to the entire Bratislava region, as well as the districts of Senica and Skalica, with preliminary validity from midnight on January 13 until 6:00 p.m. “The formation of ice is a potential danger for human activities (transportation, movement of people, infrastructure – various types of lines),” warned meteorologists, stating that the occurrence of ice is common in the given time of year and area, but can cause damage of a smaller scale.

In the districts of Nitra, Trenčianske and Banskobystrické regions, you should also be careful of snow and ice. Meteorologists are expecting snowfall in some places, during which around ten centimeters of new snow may fall. “The indicated amount of new snow represents a potential hazard for human activities (traffic and movement of people). The predicted amount of new snow is common for the given time of year and area, but may cause minor damage,” specified.

SHMÚ also drew attention to low temperatures, especially in the districts of Košice and Prešovské region. However, they can also appear in central Slovakia, namely in the districts of Brezno, Revúca and Rimavská Sobota. The minimum air temperature can drop below minus 16 degrees Celsius. “The low temperature is a potential danger to human health and physical activities outdoors. Expected frost is not uncommon in the given time of year and area, but it can cause damage to health,” noted the institute.
