And the reaction to NATO’s “death sentence”, according to Cotrim. Insurance leaves a warning about the “old world” that may return.
The presidential candidate supported by Chega, André Ventura, this Sunday rejected having “preference presidents” in the world and said that will criticize Donald Trump if the United States of America invades Greenland.
“I have already criticized [Donald Trump] several times, I would criticize again. I, unlike the left, I don’t have dictators, nor do I have preferred presidents”, defended the also president of Chega, before a campaign action in the center of the city of Aveiro.
When asked if he is disappointed with Donald Trump – a political figure that Ventura has praised several times – the candidate replied that “politics does not allow for disappointments”.
“I get disillusioned when the country doesn’t have healthcare to give people. That’s what disappoints me. Besides, I think whether it’s Donald Trump, whether it’s the president of China, whether it’s the president of Venezuela, whether it’s the president of North or South Korea, I don’t want any more dictatorships in the world. I want freedom,” he responded.
João Cotrim de Figueiredo warned, also this Sunday, that the US threats to Greenland (autonomous territory of Denmark, member of NATO) “are a huge challenge to the cohesion of NATO and could even be its death sentence.”
Ventura responded that the European Union’s divestment in Defense was also “a death sentence”.
The president of Chega considered that the European Union had its priorities reversed and that this was done among “liberals, social democrats and socialists”, rejecting “moral lessons”.
“They voted together, permanently, against what the patriots wanted, which was a stronger Europe, stronger nations, capable of fighting not only against illegal immigration, but also with external defense threats”, he criticized, in a reference to the European group to which he belongs,
Cotrim – who had the Danish ambassador by his side, in Lisbon – considers that he is the only presidential candidate to talk about Greenland: “This concern that I have with Greenland, knowing that it will be an issue that will cause the need for very difficult decisions, I don’t see anyone else worried about it”.
Also this Sunday, Henrique Gouveia e Melo considered in Vila Real that the United States is in a “dangerous drift” after threats from Donald Trump, who stated that he wanted to keep the territory “by hook or by crook”.
António José Seguro warned that the “enemies of democracy” promise a new world, but if they win the elections they will bring “a old world” which would not arrive with a military coup, but by destroying institutions from within.
In Aveiro, the presidential candidate also left several warnings about a “democracy with less quality and a very thin layer“, and a “State opening up cracks and a society falling apart“. “That allows the enemies of democracy to take advantage of this, in a populist and radical way, to promise a new world the day after they are elected,” he said.
