The US government is responding to widespread protests in Minneapolis after the shooting death of a woman by an ICE agent by sending hundreds of federal reinforcements. The authorities emphasize the necessity of protection of the security forces and thorough investigation of the incident.
The US government will send hundreds of additional federal security forces to Minneapolis, where the shooting death of a 37-year-old American woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent sparked nationwide mass protests. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said this on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures show. World agencies informed about it.
The reinforcements should arrive in the largest city of the American state of Minnesota during Sunday and Monday.
Reinforcements to Minneapolis
“There will be hundreds of them. We need to make sure that the ICE and Border Patrol agents who work in Minneapolis can do their jobs safely,” Noem observed. “If individuals use violence against security forces or obstruct our operations, it is a crime and we will hold them accountable,” she added.
An ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good three times in her car in Minneapolis on Wednesday. Noem and other top officials in President Donald Trump’s administration subsequently painted Good as a “domestic terrorist” who blocked a street with her car during an ICE operation and was killed by his agent in self-defense because she tried to run him over.
The ICE operation raises questions
In the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, has been under an ICE operation involving more than 2,000 people for several days, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Authorities say it is aimed at investigating suspected fraud, among other things, within the Somali community. The American media is discussing whether this reason is not a pretext for a politically motivated tightening of immigration policy, the DPA agency reported.
Good is the fourth person to die in ICE operations since Trump took office, according to The Trace, a website that specializes in gun violence. Seven other people were injured.
