Why the Old Danube is not opened for ice skating even after permanent frost


It has become a rare natural event in recent years: days of permanent frost have recently caused numerous natural ice surfaces in Vienna to largely freeze over. Dozens of ice skaters romped around on the Old Danube at the weekend: some even let themselves be pulled across the ice with their kites in windy weather. Others played ice hockey or walked on the frozen water without skates under their feet.
