Apple announces integration of Google’s Gemini with Siri

Companies close “several years” partnership to improve assistant features on iPhones and Macs

Apple announced this Monday (12 January 2026) that it will incorporate Gemini, an artificial intelligence system developed by Google, to improve Siri’s functionality on iPhones and Macs. In a joint note published on Google’s official news profile on X, the 2 companies a partnership with a “several years”.

Google’s technology will be integrated into Apple’s Foundation Models, a set of AI models that base resources on applications from the company and third-party developers. The choice comes after an evaluation process carried out by the iPhone manufacturer.

“After careful evaluation, Apple has determined that Google’s AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it can offer users.”the companies informed in the official communication.

The integration aims to strengthen Apple Intelligence, the manufacturer’s suite of AI resources. “These models will help drive future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri, expected to arrive later this year”the companies explained in the statement.

Since 2024, Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT with Siri on the latest devices. This functionality was introduced in June of that year as part of Apple Intelligence, allowing users to use ChatGPT for certain tasks.

The companies have not clarified how the new partnership with Google will affect the existing agreement with OpenAI.

Google also sells Pixel line smartphones in certain markets, products that compete directly with iPhones. In Brazil, these devices are not officially sold.

Apple’s Foundation Models, which will now receive technology from Google, are described by the company as a package focused on efficiency, precision and responsibility, serving as the basis for several artificial intelligence features in the brand’s devices.
