Arbeloa, in his first press conference as Madrid coach: “I am aware of the responsibility I have, and I face it with enthusiasm” | Soccer | Sports

Álvaro Arbeloa, former Real Madrid right back, started as a coach in 2020 in Valdebebas, and after the dismissal of Xabi Alonso this Monday. The coach makes his debut today in the Valdebebas conference room in advance of this Wednesday’s Copa del Rey round of 16 match against Albacete. He assures that he is “looking forward” to starting this new challenge, and that “Madrid is in great readiness in the three competitions.”

Arbeloa was Castilla’s coach until now, and the good results achieved (151 wins in 198 games) have earned him the reins of the first team. The man from Salamanca retired from football in 2017 after one season at West Ham, seven at Madrid, two at Liverpool, one at Dépor and five training days in the Merengue youth team. With Spain he was world champion and European champion twice.
