Argentina’s monthly inflation ends 2025 at 2.8%

Price index closed the year at 31.5% in the 12 months; this is a decline compared to 2024, when it registered 117.8%

Monthly inflation increased to 2.8% in December, according to data released by the (National Institute of Statistics and Census). The rate fluctuated 0.3 pp (percentage points) upwards from 2.5%. Here is the report (PDF 867 kB, in Spanish).

“The December result was driven by the divisions that recorded the biggest increases: Transport [4,0%]Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels [3,4%] and Communication [3,3%]although the highest incidence in the general index came from Food and non-alcoholic drinks [3,1%]“, states the report.

The accumulated rate in 12 months was 31.5%. This is a variation of 86.3 pp down compared to 2024, when it was 117.8%.

In 2025, the category that includes public services, fuels and public transport increased 34.2%, above the national average of 31.5%.

In December, services increased by 3.4%, while goods increased by 2.6%, reinforcing the greater pressure from administered prices and service-intensive sectors on the general index. On the other hand, seasonal products registered a monthly variation of 0.6%, indicating less impact at the end of the year.

Regionally, price behavior was heterogeneous. The Argentine Northeast presented the highest monthly inflation in the country, at 3.4%, driven mainly by the food group. The regions of Patagonia and Cuyo recorded the smallest variations, both at 2.6%.

The inflationary scenario continues to affect families’ purchasing power and salary negotiations. The trajectory of prices in the coming months will depend on monetary policy, the pace of fiscal adjustments and exchange rate stability, with inflation projections.
