The official announcement of João Cancelo’s signing by Barcelona had a curious setback, this Tuesday (13). The Catalan club confirmed the reinforcement on its social networks, but soon deleted the publications.
Cancelo himself had shared the initial posts of the announcement, and a video of the player in the Blaugrana shirt.
At that moment, dozens of journalists were already at the club waiting for the official presentation, originally scheduled for 9:30 am (Brasília time), but were informed that the event had been cancelled.
The press was then informed that the presentation had been rescheduled for 12:45 pm. According to Spanish newspapers, such as “Marca” and “Mundo Deportivo”, the problem was with the documentation of Cancelo’s transfer.
Lunch causes further delay in Cancelo’s performance
The player returns to Barcelona. The Saudi club had to send an important document for the deal later, which made Barcelona delete publications about the signing.
The newspaper “Sport” also revealed a more unusual detail: Cancelo had a “personal commitment to lunch”, so the press conference could not be held at lunchtime.
At 12:50 pm, the second confirmation finally arrived on Barcelona’s social networks. Cancelo returns to represent, when he was loaned by Manchester City. He will stay at Barça until June 2026.
