BC’s appeal in the Master case process will be judged on the 21st, says TCU president

The president of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), Vital do Rêgo, said this Monday (12) that the Central Bank’s appeal in the process investigating the liquidation of Banco Master will be judged on January 21st. According to Vital do Rêgo, the deadline for judging the embargoes was agreed with minister Jonathan de Jesus, rapporteur of the process.

Earlier, the president of the TCU participated in a meeting with Jonathan de Jesus and the president of the BC, Gabriel Galípolo, at the headquarters of the monetary authority, in Brasília.

The meeting was scheduled last week, amid tension between BC and TCU over the investigation.

In December, Jesus authorized the beginning of the investigation, with the aim of determining whether there was “precipitation” on the part of the monetary authority when decreeing the liquidation, on November 18th.

The rapporteur even asked for explanations from the BC. Based on the response, TCU auditors preliminarily concluded that the authority acted correctly in the process that led to the liquidation. On Saturday, in a note, Jesus stated that the technicians’ position was not to be confused with a decision by the court of accounts.

According to the minister, it was the TCU auditors themselves who requested an on-site inspection at the BC to have access to confidential documents in the case. Jesus even authorized the inspection on Monday, the 5th, but backtracked on Thursday, the 8th. He accepted the BC’s appeal, which is why the inspection must be submitted to the court plenary next week.
