Cruzeiro: Gerson is direct about passages in Europe and mentions Sampaoli

Cruzeiro’s main signing in this transfer window, midfielder Gerson was officially presented this Tuesday (13), at Toca da Raposa II. During a press conference, the player recalled his time in Europe.

Cruzeiro’s number 97 was at Zenit, in Russia, but also spent time at Rome, Fiorentina, both in Italy, and Olympique de Marseille, in France. In the French team, he even worked with Jorge Sampaoli, current coach of Atlético-MG, and mentioned him in an interview.

“It’s worth highlighting: on my first departure from Brazil, I went to Rome at a very young age. I wasn’t ready yet. I’m a very sincere guy. I decided to return to Brazil, to my country. Then I returned to Brazil, where I achieved great things. Then I went to Olympique de Marseille. Before that, there was my time at Fiorentina, where I was a starter in most of the games”, he recalled.

“It’s actually funny. People often say that I didn’t work out in Europe. But, if you stop to analyze it carefully, during my time at Fiorentina I always played. Then, I go back to Brazil, I go to Marseille. That’s where I scored the most goals, (I had) the best-selling shirt in the squad. If you ask Sampaoli, you can be sure he’ll say good things”, he went further, right after.

During the same statement, Gerson reaffirmed his desire to make history with the Cruzeiro shirt. He signed a permanent contract with the celestial club, until the end of 2030.

“The most important thing today is to emphasize that I’m very happy. I’m at a great club, and I have the opportunity to write my name at a great club. I couldn’t let this opportunity pass”, he concluded.
