Green coffee exports increase 4.8% with strong flow of Robusta, says ICO

New York (Reuters) – Green coffee exports from producing countries increased 4.8% in November from a year earlier, to 8.95 million 60-kg bags, mainly due to a strong increase in trade in Robusta beans, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) said in a monthly report on Monday (12).

Robusta coffee exports increased 28% year-on-year to 3.24 million bags, driven mainly by Vietnam, the world’s largest producer of this coffee variety, whose exports in the period increased 93% to 1.47 million bags.

The ICO said Uganda and Indonesia also saw increases in their sales of Robusta beans, a type widely used to make instant coffee and espresso blends.

Exports of the milder Arabica coffee fell during the period. Sales of Colombian Milds fell 0.9% to 1.24 million bags, while exports of Brazilian Naturals decreased 14.7% to 3.25 million bags.
