Minister also stated that he speaks with Gabriel Galípolo, president of the Central Bank, ‘almost daily’
The Minister of Finance, , defended the actions of the (BC) during the liquidation of the Master bank. He also called the case the “biggest bank fraud” in the country and stated that he spoke with , . “The case requires a lot of caution, we could be facing the biggest bank fraud in the country. We have to take all due precautions, with the formalities, guaranteeing all the space for the defense to explain itself, but at the same time being very firm in relation to what has to be defended in the public interest.” The liquidation occurred after investigators discovered the sale of credit portfolios suspected of fraud by Master to Banco de Brasília (BRB). The values are R$12 billion.
“I have spoken with the president of the BC almost daily, giving all the institutional support of the Treasury. I think we have done very important joint work, because it also involves the Treasury, the Reag case. There is a connection that is being investigated between the two cases”, he told journalists. Reag is one of the funds investigated in Operation Hidden Carbon, which was launched on August 28, 2025 by the Federal Police to dismantle the involvement of the First Capital Command (PCC) with the fuel sector.
Haddad also stated that he maintains contact with Vital do Rêgo, president of the Federal Court of Auditors. Vital had a meeting this Monday (12) with the president of the Central Bank to discuss the court’s competence in supervising the liquidation.
“I spoke with the president of the TCU a few times on the phone last week. I think there was a convergence on how to help, how to do the best for the country to know the truth, determine responsibilities, and eventually obtain compensation for the damages caused. I think things will move in the right direction”, said Haddad.
