Hungary will recognize the new parliament already in April. Both Viktor Orbán and Péter Magyar are rousing their voters

President Tamás Sulyok officially set the date of parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 12, 2026. He called on citizens to exercise their democratic right.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the head of the non-parliamentary opposition party TISZA Péter Magyar reacted with short posts on Facebook on Tuesday to the fact that President Tamás Sulyok announced the date of parliamentary elections, reports TASR correspondent in Budapest.

“April 12. Certain elections!” wrote Orbán.

“It’s official: Hungary will vote in 89 days, on April 12.” stated Magyar, who added: “Raise the flags! Rise to victory!”

Elections in 2026

The elections to the Hungarian National Assembly will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Sulyok also announced on Facebook on Tuesday.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Law on Electoral Procedures, I set the general election of deputies for the year 2026 by resolution on this matter. The elections will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026,” he wrote. He emphasized that one of the fundamental pillars of democracy is the right to free choice and at the same time encouraged everyone to use it.

In Hungary, the election of deputies is governed by a law from 2011. Elections are single-round.
