This Tuesday, EuroMillions distributes a jackpot of 64 million euros, maintaining the tradition of attracting thousands of Portuguese people in search of the prize that can change their lives. It is the fourth draw of 2026 and, after no totalist emerged in the last draw, the prize remains accumulated, being the second largest this week, with a national prize of more than 116 thousand euros awarded to a Portuguese bettor.

According to Santa Casa da Misericórdia, which manages Euromillions in Portugal, the draw takes place on Tuesdays and Friday nights in Paris and offers simple bets, with five numbers and two stars, for 2.5 euros.

Players can also opt for multiple bets, choosing up to ten numbers and five stars, increasing the price according to the number of combinations made.

Mathematical probabilities and strategies

The odds of matching all five numbers and two stars are one in 139 million. EuroMillions follows the 5/50 format, with five numbers to choose from 50.

Calculating the possible combinations using the binomial coefficient, more than two million simple combinations emerge, making victory extremely unlikely.

Statistics professor Mark Glickman, from Harvard University, explains that the only way to significantly increase your chances of winning is to buy more tickets. Speaking to CNBC in 2021, Glickman stressed that the odds remain unchanged regardless of the numbers chosen.

According to the Lottery Codex, a balanced combination pattern between odd and even numbers can marginally increase the chances of success.

The study indicates that combinations of three odd numbers and two evens or three evens and two odd numbers have a relative probability of 0.235, while combinations with one odd number and four evens or one even and four odd numbers register 0.149. Combinations with only odd numbers or only even numbers are the least likely, with a probability of 0.025.

Most and least frequent numbers

As the same source states, the numbers that have come out the most since 2004 are 44, which appeared 218 times, followed by 23 and 42 with 215 exits each, and 19 and 29 with 212. Among the stars, the most frequent are 3 and 7, both drawn 379 times.

On the other hand, the numbers that appear least in the draw are 22, 33, 46, 41 and 18, with 40, 43 and 47 also being discouraged. Among the stars, the numbers to avoid are 10, 11 and 12.

This data allows players to form strategies based on historical frequency, although, according to the same source, there is no guarantee of victory.

Since the creation of the competition, 78 Portuguese people have joined the Euromillionaires’ club, showing that, despite the slim odds, there are always those who challenge their luck.

The jackpot continues to accumulate when there are no winners, reaching a maximum limit of 240 million euros, since the ceiling was changed in July 2022, according to .
