Lula sanctions ‘More Teachers’ law, with scholarships for undergraduate students

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned law 15,334, which establishes the National Policy for Induction into Teaching in Basic Education – More Teachers for Brazil.

The text, published in Official Gazette of the Union (DOU)provides for the annual offer of scholarships to “high-performance students in high school who enroll in face-to-face undergraduate courses, with the aim of supporting students to dedicate themselves fully to academic activities, the mandatory supervised internship and extension activities, which are also mandatory in the course”.

The law establishes that scholarships will be distributed preferentially to areas of knowledge in which there is a proven lack of teachers in the territories, measured through official research and studies. The scholarship holder must enter a public basic education network within five years of completing the degree course and remain in the position for at least two years.
