The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, announced this Tuesday (13/1) that he will leave command of the department in April to dedicate himself fully to the 2026 electoral project. Pre-candidate for the Senate for Pernambuco, he stated that the decompatibilization will comply with the legal calendar and will allow greater focus on building the candidacy.
According to Costa Filho, the decision is the result of a process of political maturity and the positive evaluation of his name in voting intention polls. “I am working hard to increasingly consolidate our candidacy for the Senate. I feel ready and prepared to represent Pernambuco in the Federal Senate”, he stated.

With a career that includes terms as councilor of Recife, state deputy, secretary of state and federal deputy, in addition to his current ministerial role, the minister said he knows Pernambuco’s economic and social challenges up close. “I’m sure we’ll run a great campaign, presenting proposals that speak to the future of Pernambuco”, he declared.
Despite his optimism, Costa Filho considered that majority disputes depend on multiple factors. Even so, he highlighted his closeness to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the encouragement he received for his candidacy. “I have been talking to President Lula, who has increasingly encouraged me to run for the Senate because he knows that I have always tried to do politics with decency, loyalty and correctness,” he said. “Let’s go together, alongside President Lula, to continue working hard in the coming years for the future of our State.”
The minister also highlighted the results achieved as head of the department, especially the growth of the port sector and civil aviation in the country. For him, management performance reinforces the willingness to continue contributing to the government. “I am ready and prepared to continue alongside President Lula helping Pernambuco and Brazil,” he stated. The minister’s departure is scheduled for April.
