The airport in Budapest was closed due to ice

Ferenc Liszt Airport in Budapest had to temporarily stop all arrivals and departures due to freezing rain and ice. Clearing of the runways is ongoing and the investigation into the incident continues.

Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest temporarily suspended arrivals and departures at 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday due to freezing rain and ice. Budapest Airport (BA) announced it on Facebook, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

Snow or sleet has been falling at the airport and its surroundings since the early hours of Tuesday morning. Therefore, the highest level of snow emergency was declared at the airport. Airport workers are constantly cleaning the runways, taxiways and aprons, according to the BA post.

In the morning, the front landing gear of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 777-200 cargo plane skidded off the hard surface of the taxiway onto a grassy area while taxiing, where the plane went down. The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated.
