Trump threatens 25% tariff on countries that do business with Iran

United States President Donald Trump stated this Monday (12) that any country that does business with Iran will face a 25% tariff “on any and all business carried out with the United States of America”.

“Effective immediately, any country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a 25% tariff on any and all business conducted with the United States of America. This order is final and conclusive….”Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Trump’s announcement comes at a time when the oil-rich Middle Eastern country is struggling to contain a wave of large anti-government protests.

According to data from the Comex Stat platform, the Ministry of Development, Brazil exported US$2.920 billion to Iran in 2025 and imported US$84.594 million in the same period. As a result, the bilateral trade balance recorded a surplus of around US$2.84 billion in favor of Brazil.

This Tuesday (13), officials from the Trump administration are expected to meet to discuss other options which, according to the newspaper, also involve a possible military or cyber attack.
