The avalanche came down suddenly, it only lasted a few seconds. The mountain service was looking for a boy from the Czech Republic. They finally got him out from under the snow, but he was in critical condition. Rescuers fought for the child’s life for 45 long minutes. Despite their best efforts, he could not be revived.
He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. “Unfortunately, a 12-year-old skier has passed away. Our condolences go out to his family. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.,” the mountain service of Bad Gastein said on Facebook.
According to media reports, other members of his family were supposed to be on the slope. They managed to escape from the mass of snow and should have escaped unharmed. The circumstances under which the avalanche broke off are now being investigated by the mountain service and the police. According to the initial reports, a snowboarder from Sweden was supposed to have accidentally pulled down the avalanche. After the tragic event, he reported himself to the mountain service and cooperated in the investigation.
