João Cotrim de Figueiredo waits for Luís Montenegro
Presidential candidate Cotrim Figueiredo warns Luís Montenegro that only voting for his candidacy will prevent André Ventura or António José Seguro from reaching the Presidency of the Republic.
Cotrim de Figueiredo asked Luís Montenegro to vote and appeal to the PSD to vote for the liberal candidate, to avoid having a President of the Republic from the PS or Chega
“With a sense of responsibilityand without wanting to diminish the candidacy supported by the party led by your excellency, as well as by the CDS-PP, I come to appeal to the PSD vote in my candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic”, says Cotrim, in a public appeal to Montenegro, president of the PSD and prime minister.
The MEP also urges Montenegro to bet on his candidacy because he is certain that, like him, he does not want to see the candidate supported by the PS, nor the candidate supported by Chega, party leader, at the Belém Palace – the official residence of the President of the Republic. The former IL leader considered that his candidacy is, today, the the only one capable of preventing this scenarioo.
“As your Excellency stated last week: “We cannot fall into the trap of scattering votes and being tied to not having good choices in the second round.” I couldn’t agree more with you. It’s time to make the right decision in your own words“, he insisted.
Cotrim Figueiredo recalled that in the October local elections did not hesitate to support Pedro Duarte’s candidaciesno Porto, and Carlos Moedasin Lisbon.
“I did it because I believed it was the best for both municipalities in question and for their respective populations. I did so, therefore, because I considered it to be the best for Portugal. I trusted the PSD”, he recalled.
The former president of IL stated that he is aware that a large part of PSD voters and leaders already trust him and, because of this conviction, he asks Montenegro to join them.
“I know that changing the meaning of a decision like this requires courage, but, as Francisco Sá Carneiro taught us, ‘First the country, then the party and, finally, each person’s personal circumstances’”, he pointed out.
In his opinion, Portugal needs a demanding President, who will collaborate with the Government in implementing the urgent reforms that the country needs to have a better future.
“Count on me. I’m counting on you. The Portuguese are counting on us”he stressed.
