Fisherman is rescued clinging to the refrigerator door after spending hours adrift in SC

A 35-year-old man was with his father, who was found dead a few hours later

A 35-year-old fisherman was found leaning against a refrigerator in São Francisco do Sul, North Coast of Santa Catarina

A 35-year-old fisherman was found in São Francisco do Sul, North Coast ofthis Tuesday morning (13) after the vessel Santa Luzia 3, on which he was with his father, sank. He spent the night adrift and was rescued alive. The Fire Department found the body of the rescued man’s father a few hours later.

The rescued man held on to the door of a refrigerator until he was located by the Águia 01 helicopter, on the outskirts of the Tamboretes Islands. The rescue was carried out using the “puçá” technique, a rescue basket that allows the safe lifting of victims who are in the water.

The survivor was taken to Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, in São Francisco do Sul. He was conscious when he was rescued.
