A pair of foreigners ended up in custody in the Czech Republic after trying to escape in a stolen electric car. The police detained them.
In South Moravia, the police caught men who were stealing electric cars. The couple is currently in custody and may spend up to ten years behind bars. “South Moravian criminal investigators charged two foreigners who, as it turned out later, were stealing electric cars all over the Czech Republic,” said police spokesman Pavel Šváb.
A fatal case
According to the spokesman, thieves became fatal when they stole an electric car near Brno in October, which they planned to transport abroad through Poland, according to a proven scenario. “Colleagues from the district department of Vrbno pod Pradědem found a parked car on a dirt road, at the same moment a dark Audi disappeared from the place towards the difficult terrain,” Šváb described the beginning of the police action.
According to him, the policemen, unlike foreigners, knew that they would not be able to pass there with an ordinary car, and called for reinforcements. “Thieves got back on the road a little further, but with a damaged car. Traffic police from Jeseník arrested them a little later,” the spokesperson explained.

He further stated that during the interrogation, the foreigners tried to cover up the real reason for the escape, but to no avail. “Criminalists finally proved six cases of theft of electric cars, two of which were found,” Šváb praised his colleagues.
The total damage exceeded 3 million crowns (120 thousand euros). The accused are currently awaiting sentencing in custody. “For theft and unauthorized use of someone else’s property, they face up to ten years behind bars,” concludes Pavel Šváb.
