After threats from the American president, to intervene in the face of the repression of the wave of protests that has already left more than 2,500 dead in the country informed allies of the in the Middle East that it will attack American bases in its territories if Washington carries out an offensive against Tehran, according to the Reuters news agency.

The agency reported that a senior Iranian official said on Wednesday (14) on condition of anonymity that Tehran asked US allies in the region to “prevent Washington from attacking Iran”.

According to the report, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Türkiye are among the countries warned about possible attacks. The Iranian official also told Reuters that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff had suspended direct talks following the rise in tensions.

According to Reuters, Israel is already aware that Trump intends to intervene in Iran, but there is no definition of the scope or timing of this action. Last year, the Israelis and Iranians fought a war that lasted 12 days.

The agency further said that Iranian state media reported that the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, spoke with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Araqchi spoke with the Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Turkey, Hakan Fidan.

In an interview with CBS News, Trump stated on Tuesday, the 13th, that he will intervene if Iran begins to hang protesters. “We will take very strong action if they do this,” he said. He did not specify what actions he intended to take, but warned that he did not rule out the use of military force.

“We don’t want a repeat of what’s happening in Iran,” Trump said. “And you know, if they want to protest, that’s fine, but when they start killing thousands of people, and now you’re talking to me about hanging – let’s see how it ends for them. It’s not going to end well.”

Human rights entities said 26-year-old Erfan Soltani will be executed this Wednesday. He was arrested on January 8, at home, after participating in demonstrations against the Iranian government.

The US has bases spread across the Middle East, including the US Navy Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Last year, after the US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities, Tehran responded by launching missiles at Al Udeid Air Base.
