MA: app helps firefighters on the 11th day of searching for missing brothers

The search for brothers Ágatha Isabelly Reis Lago, aged six, and Allan Michael Reis Lago, aged four, reaches its 11th day this Wednesday (14), in Bacabal, in the interior of Maranhão. The operation takes place in an area of dense forest, close to the quilombola village São Sebastião dos Pretos, in the rural area of the municipality. The Maranhão Military Fire Department (CBMMA) uses a geolocation application to record the routes traveled and locate agents or volunteers in real time. According to the corporation, more than 60% of the estimated area of 54 km² has already been inspected.

To increase the efficiency of the sweep, firefighters divided the territory into quadrants, a strategy adopted to ensure thorough work in a region marked by dense forest, irregular trails and difficult-to-access points.

The searches are coordinated by the State Secretariat for Public Security of Maranhão (SSP-MA) and involve a task force made up of the Fire Department, Civil Police, Military Police, Air Tactical Center (CTA), Official Forensics and the Brazilian Army, as well as municipal bodies and volunteers from the local community.

Since the beginning of the operation, on Sunday, January 4, more than 500 people have participated in the actions, which involve the use of aircraft, drones equipped with thermal sensors and sniffer dogs. The support bases were set up in the towns of São Sebastião dos Pretos and Santa Rosa, with logistical support from Bacabal City Hall, which provides food, ambulance and structure for the teams.

On Tuesday (13), the Government of Maranhão reported that Anderson Kauã Barbosa Reis, aged eight, cousin of the missing children, did not suffer sexual violence. According to Governor Carlos Brandão, medical examinations confirmed the physical integrity of the boy, found last Wednesday (7), after remaining missing in the forest for around 72 hours.

Anderson Kauã remains hospitalized at the General Hospital of Bacabal, where he receives multidisciplinary care, including medical and psychological care. The IPCA (Institute of Expertise for Children and Adolescents) conducts specialized listening to the child, in accordance with the protocols adopted by the body.

The eight-year-old boy was located alive in the village of Santa Rosa, approximately four kilometers from the place where the children had last been seen. The rescue was carried out by three rural producers who were heading to work and found the child in the middle of the vegetation.

On Sunday (11), volunteers located pieces of children’s clothing in a forested area in the search region. After analysis, the Maranhão Civil Police reported that the items do not belong to Ágatha Isabelly or Allan Michael.

The three children disappeared after going out to play, on January 4, in a forested area close to the family’s residences, in the quilombola territory of São Sebastião dos Pretos. Since then, the searches have continued uninterruptedly, with no information yet on the whereabouts of Ágatha and Allan.
