The US has announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan after ending the first, as announced on social media this Wednesday by the US special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. With it, it is expected, among other issues, to begin the demilitarization of the Palestinian enclave, as well as the total reconstruction of Gaza.
Furthermore, another point highlighted by the second phase of the plan is the establishment of a technocratic government without the presence of Hamas. To do this, the US will appoint some 15 Palestinian technocrats, who will make up the National Committee for the Administration of the enclave. Those elected are expected to have “without political or ideological affiliation to any resistance faction.”
Witkoff has said he trusts Hamas to “fully fulfill its obligations,” which also includes “the immediate return of a deceased hostage” (which Israel made as a condition for being able to begin the second phase of the Gaza peace plan). In the event that they do not comply with the agreement, there will be “serious consequences”, as the American has threatened.
