Two women are accusing Spanish star Julio Iglesias of assaulting them while they were working as housekeepers at his luxury Caribbean homes.
A domestic worker claims she was pressured into having sex with Iglesias, describing incidents of slapping, physical and verbal abuse.
A physiotherapist, who also worked for the artist, reported being touched inappropriately, insulted and humiliated during her employment, in an environment of control and constant harassment. Iglesias, the latest celebrity to be implicated in the MeToo movement, faces allegations that he molested the two women in 2021, when the younger was 22.
The alleged attacks allegedly took place at his residences in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Lyford Cay, Bahamas. The complaints were published today 13/1 following a joint investigation by the Spanish newspaper elDiario.es and the Univision television network.
“He used me almost every night”
One of the alleged sufferers, nicknamed Rebecca, reports that the then 77-year-old Spanish artist often called her to his room at the end of the night.
“He used me almost every night,” he told elDiario.es and Univision Noticias. “I felt like an object, like a slave.” He also said the alleged sexual acts almost always took place in the presence of another, more senior member of staff at the house.
However, the woman Rebecca identified as her first supervisor at the Punta Cana villa dismissed the allegations as “nonsense.” The former manager said she has nothing but “gratitude, admiration and respect for the great artist,” describing Iglesias as “humble, generous, a true gentleman and highly respectful of all women.”
