An 18-year-old young man died in the early hours of this Thursday in the home where he lived in the Majorcan municipality of Manacor. The causes of the collapse are still unknown. His 12-year-old little brother, who was sleeping next to him in the room, was injured and was taken to the Son Espases university hospital in Palma. The National Police has opened an investigation to clarify the facts.
The Mallorca Firefighters have stated that the incident occurred as a result of the collapse of the floor of a room in a building with a ground floor plus two floors. The upper floor, which corresponded to a flat roof, has fallen onto the lower floor, subsequently affecting another room of the house. The parents of the minors, who were sleeping in another room, were not injured.
The 061 emergency service has reported that the events occurred on Sant Francesc Street in Manacor at 5.15 this morning. After the roof of the house collapsed, the two brothers were trapped under the rubble while they slept. A team of firefighters from the Manacor and Llucmajor parks, with the participation of a sergeant and two technicians, has traveled to the house to free the bodies of the two victims.
The body of the 18-year-old young man has been rescued, now lifeless, while the 12-year-old boy has been stabilized and transferred to the Son Espases hospital in Palma. Two advanced life support units, one basic life support unit and a rapid intervention vehicle have also attended the scene to participate in the rescue tasks.
