Biofuels financing breaks record in 2025, says BNDES

O National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved R$6.4 billion in credit for biofuel production in 2025, surpassing the previous record of R$4.8 billion, recorded in 2010.

From 2023 onwards, the bank resumed support for the production of biofuels in the country, in diversified projects, with ethanol from corn and wheat, in addition to biomethane.

In the last three years, there have been approved R$ 13.3 billiona figure 204% higher than that achieved between 2019 and 2022.

“By financing clean and renewable energy, BNDES strengthens the national industry, contributes to the reduction of emissions and consolidates the country as a protagonist of the fair and sustainable energy transition”, stated in a statement the bank’s president, Aloizio Mercadante.
