Change in Jorginho Mello’s support could keep Carol de Toni in the PL and redesign the Senate race in SC

Federal deputy Carol de Toni (PL-SC), who had been articulating her departure from the Liberal Party to migrate to the Novo Party, may review her plans in the face of a change in Santa Catarina’s political chess.

Behind the scenes, allies of the parliamentarian claim that governor Jorginho Mello (PL) is considering withdrawing support for senator Esperidião Amin (PP) in the race for the Senate in 2026 and starting to support Carol de Toni’s political project. The possible change of position changes the internal scenario of the PL in the State and reduces the pressure for the deputy to leave the party.

The uncertainty began after the arrival of the councilor (PL) to Santa Catarina, a movement that, added to Jorginho Mello’s initial support for Amin, weakened Carol de Toni’s space in the Senate race within the party.

Faithful to the agenda of Bolsonarism, the deputy maintains alignment with the former president and has already expressed to allies his desire to walk politically alongside Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in a presidential project of the party. Carol also has public support from former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, who has mentioned the parliamentarian on social media.

If the governor confirms the decline in support for Esperidião Amin, the scenario points to a dispute between Carol de Toni and Carlos Bolsonaro for the two Senate seats for Santa Catarina in the 2026 elections.
