Cold feet in bed? Before you grab your socks, try this trick to get your blood pumping

Winter evenings certainly bring the right cozy atmosphere to homes, but despite all efforts to warm up, it can happen that even before going to bed we fight with cold feet. It’s a struggle that we all deal with in our own way. But so that you don’t have to sleep in warm socks, try a simple trick this time.

Maybe you know the feeling too – you snuggle under the covers, you want to sleep immediately, but your feet are like two pieces of ice that won’t melt. This annoying problem isn’t just a matter of convenience— cold feet send a signal to the body to maintain heat in the core of the organism, which leads to narrowing of blood vessels and, paradoxically, to more difficulty falling asleep.

A YouTube video on the Space for Sleep channel also shows how to prevent cold feet:

You won’t need socks

Anyone who has ever tried to fall asleep with really cold feet knows what I’m talking about. It takes a lot of time and commitment if it’s going to work at all. But before you resignedly reach for thick woolen socks, try an ingenious methodwhich uses a fairly common ingredient from the pantry.

Plain rice will help

What should be the miraculous ally in the fight to fall asleep peacefully with warm feet? It is ordinary rice, which, thanks to its physical properties, works as a perfect one warmth, which can be precisely shaped according to the feet and warm the feet in depth. Rice can retain heat for a very long time and release it gradually. This is much more beneficial for fragile legs than a shock warm-up. The principle of this trick is to create an improvised heating pad.

Help is easy to make

Preparing this homemade hot water bottle is so easy that even a child can do it. Nevertheless, it requires following a certain procedure so that the result is really what we would like. What will we need? nothing special just a clean cotton sock and a sufficient amount of dry rice, fill the sock roughly two-thirds full and tie it tightly at the end. It’s the perfect second chance for any of those lonely socks that have lost their companion in the washing machine or somewhere on the way from the cupboard to the feet.

Almost everyone has a microwave at home

Place the prepared bag in the microwave for a few minutes. But at this moment comes an important moment that, if the rules are not followed, could destroy everything. It is important to take your time and heat the rice in short intervals to prevent it from burning and creating unattractive smells. Once the sock is pleasantly warm, slide it under the duvet and place it against your feet.

No worries about spilling hot water

We can think that it will be easier to simply fill a classic rubber bottle with hot water and the result will be the same. It’s not quite true – the main advantage of rice is the dry heat which more effectively, it does not cause unwanted fluid spillage and causes dilation of blood vessels, thanks to which sleep comes faster. The heat rising from the feet gives the brain a clear signal that the body is safe, warm and ready to regenerate. The sleep then tends to be deeper.
