Escola de Baques opens free registration and takes traditional music from Acre to two centers in Rio Branco

Anyone who wants to learn or deepen their knowledge of Acre’s traditional musicality can now sign up for the Escola de Baques – 2026, which begins activities this month in two centers in Rio Branco. With free classes and limited places, the project focuses on the practical experience of baques, a musical expression formed from the knowledge of rubber tappers and the region’s native peoples. Registration can be made through and is free, but must be confirmed in person at the workshop locations.

Classes began at Polo Centro de Rio Branco, this Thursday (15), and at Polo Irineu Serra they begin next Saturday (17). Between January and March, participants will have access to music workshops that combine practice, theory, history and arrangements, always respecting traditional repertoires and each student’s level of initiation.

At Polo Irineu Serra, activities take place at Sede Baquemirim, with the Escola Cruzeiro group, on Saturdays, from 9 am to 11 am, aimed at practicing the repertoires and musical schools of the community’s baques.

In the center of Rio Branco, classes take place at the Casa das Culturas da Gameleira. On Thursdays, from 3 pm to 5 pm, the Txana Bu group promotes studies on indigenous music in Acre, aimed at both indigenous peoples and those interested in general; In this case, you need to bring your own instrument. In the same place, from 6 pm to 8 pm, the Zenaide Parteira group develops musical practices by Baques do Acre, led by Zenaide Parteira and Alexandre Anselmo.

The purpose of Escola de Baques is to offer a space for exchanging knowledge and strengthening Acre’s cultural identity, connecting tradition, memory and artistic training. The project is carried out by Baquemirim and the Nova Era Institute, with support from the National Network of Free Training Schools in Art and Culture, the Ministry of Culture and the Federal Government.
