Denmark and several North Atlantic allies will reinforce their military presence in Greenland, at a time when Donald Trump and the American administration

Following the meeting of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance with the Foreign Ministers of Greenland and Denmark, the Ministry of Defense of Mette Frederiksen’s government announced that the country will increase its military presence in the territory.

“As part of the reinforcement of the presence in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, the Armed Forces will, from today, mobilize resources and units as part of training activities, which means that, in the near future, there will be an increase in the military presence in Greenland and surrounding areas, including aircraft, ships and soldiers, including from NATO allies”,

One of those allies is Sweden, the first of the Danish neighbors to announce that it will deploy elements of its armed forces to the Arctic island.

“Some officers from the Swedish Armed Forces arrive in Greenland today. They are part of a group of several allied countries. Together, they will prepare the next steps within the framework of the Danish exercise Operation Arctic Endurance. The deployment of personnel from the Swedish Armed Forces took place at the request of Denmark”, announced Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, on X.

According to Politico, the Netherlands, Canada, France and Germany will also participate in this exercise.

In the case of Berlin, the German Ministry of Defense will send a reconnaissance team of 13 members of the armed forces to “support Denmark in ensuring security in the region, for example, with regard to maritime surveillance capabilities”.

Norway will also contribute, but with two officials from its armed forces, Defense Minister Tore Sandvik told Reuters.
