Genial/Quaest: 51% of Brazilians consider Lula’s criticism of the US operation in Venezuela wrong

Despite the negative assessment of the president’s stance, the majority of voters say that the episode does not influence their voting decision in the elections

The majority of Brazilians consider the stance of the by condemning the actions of already which resulted in the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. This is what the Genial/Quaest survey released this Thursday (15) shows.

According to the survey, 51% of those interviewed consider the president’s reaction to be wrong, while 37% consider his stance to be correct. Another 12% said they did not know or did not respond.

Lula harshly criticized the North American action, classifying the episode as “a very serious affront to Venezuela’s sovereignty and an extremely dangerous precedent for the international community”.

Despite the majority disapproval of the position adopted by the president, the research indicates that the episode has little impact on the voting decision. For 72% of those interviewed, Lula’s stance regarding Maduro’s arrest does not affect the electoral choice this year.

Among those who claim some impact, 17% say that the president’s position makes them prefer the opposition, while 7% say that the attitude reinforces their preference for Lula. Another 5% did not know or did not respond.

The research was carried out between January 8th and 11th, through face-to-face home interviews, using structured questionnaires. In total, 2,004 Brazilians aged 16 or over were interviewed. The margin of error is two percentage points, with a 95% confidence level. The bases used for the sample include data from the TSE 2025, PNAD 2025/2, PNAD 2024/2 and the 2022 Census.
