São José-RS surprised by beating Grêmio 1-0 at Arena do Grêmio, in a match valid for the second round of the Campeonato Gaúcho 2026, held on Wednesday (15).
The match was played behind closed doors, due to the incidents that occurred in the last Gre-Nal.
The only goal of the game was scored by Ronald Barcellos, in the 47th minute of the first half, with a beautiful shot from outside the area that beat goalkeeper Tiago Volpi.
Grêmio dominated possession throughout the match, controlling 56% of the actions, but found it difficult to create clear scoring opportunities.
The home team only made two shots towards the goal, while São José showed greater effectiveness with seven successful shots.
The visiting team stood out for its defensive solidity, accumulating 12 successful tackles and 43 clearances throughout the match.
Tricolor tried to press in the final minutes, but was hampered by the good performance of goalkeeper Fábio Rampi, who made important saves to guarantee São José’s victory.
With the result, São José reached 4 points and took the lead in the Campeonato Gaúcho, alongside Caxias. Grêmio, who had won in their debut, remains with 3 points in the competition.
