Michelle met with Gilmar to discuss the house for Bolsonaro, says website

Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro met with the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Gilmar Mendes, to discuss the possibility of a new house arrest for Jair Bolsonaro. The minister confirmed the private meeting, but did not detail what was discussed at the meeting. The information is from Andréia Sadi’s column, in G1.

Bolsonaro has been detained at the Federal Police Superintendency since November 22 last year, after being sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for five crimes.

Sources interviewed by the column report that the former president’s current health condition makes it impossible for him to safely serve his sentence in a closed regime. Behind the scenes at the Supreme Court, says the column, there is disagreement between ministers about Moraes’ position regarding the conviction, which would have motivated Michelle’s initiative to hold private conversations on the topic.

Conditions for serving the sentence in check

The Public Defender’s Office of the Federal District opened an investigation to determine Jair Bolsonaro’s health condition and whether the former president’s “special needs” are being respected.

The investigation takes place following a joint complaint by senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF) and federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO). The requests were presented after Bolsonaro suffered a fall and hit his head during the early hours of last Tuesday (6).

Parliamentarians requested an in-person inspection of the place where Bolsonaro is being held, in addition to verifying health care and analyzing possible humanitarian measures to be adopted.

The episode has been used, on several occasions, as an attempt to transfer Bolsonaro back to house arrest, a milder regime lost by the former president after the attempt to break the electronic ankle bracelet.
