The operation by the Civil and Military Police of Rio de Janeiro in São Gonçalo, metropolitan region, ended with four suspects dead and one person injured this Wednesday (14). The police action took place in the Salgueiro favela complex and, according to the State Government, had the objective of checking intelligence information.
The man who was in the helicopter and was shot is an employee of a company that provided services for Cedae (Water and Sewage Company of the State of Rio de Janeiro). The aircraft was shot at and ended up being hit in the calf.
According to Cedae, the helicopter did not participate in the operation. He was carrying out environmental mapping of the Macacu and Guapiaçu rivers, which are part of the company’s water supply system. The victim, an employee of the service company, was identified as Allan Cavalcante Moraes, is 38 years old and worked as a cameraman.
After being hit by gunfire, the helicopter managed to make its way to a helipad belonging to the GAM (Grupamento Aeromóvel) of the Military Police, which is located in the city of Niterói. The man was rescued and taken to the Azevedo Lima State Hospital, also in Niterói.
According to the State Department of Health, until early Wednesday evening, he was in stable health.
In a statement, the company responsible for the helicopter reported that “the professional is under observation, without risk or seriousness and that the aircraft landed safely and all operational and safety protocols were strictly followed.”
Operation ended with four dead
According to the Civil Police, the operation aimed to check and explore intelligence information previously collected, aimed at directly confronting criminal organizations operating in the Complexo do Salgueiro region, with a focus on the qualified repression of drug trafficking and the illegal circulation of war weapons, with repercussions in Baixada Fluminense.
Several agents from the Baixada General Police Department (DGPB), the Special Resources Coordination (CORE) and the 60th and 66th Police Stations, in integrated action with the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro, through the 7th BPM (São Gonçalo) participated in the action.
Also according to the Civil Police, “during the investigation, three armed criminals resisted police intervention, being neutralized after a confrontation, in strict compliance with operational protocols and the legality of the action.”
A CNN Brazil found that everyone was admitted to the Alberto Torres State Hospital in the city of São Gonçalo. One was identified as Jonatas Ribeiro Passos, 32 years old. Two others were admitted without documentation.
A fourth suspect was admitted to Alberto Torres hospital, helped by his wife. He was identified as Pierry André da Cruz Gonçalves, aged 28. All four suspects died.
