The Attorney General of the Republic, , spoke out this Wednesday (14) in favor of (PL)’s request for religious assistance in prison, but against access to a SmartTV. However, he says it is possible to authorize an alternative solution for monitoring the news.

“Access to cable TV, if it is logistically viable and as long as it is limited to channels that do not allow direct or indirect interaction with third parties, is not inconsistent with punitive legislation,” said the PGR.

Furthermore, he stated that the costs involved with any authorization by the rapporteur, Alexandre de Moraes, must be borne by the former president.

Gonet has not yet commented on the new request for granting house arrest made this Tuesday (13) by the former president’s defense.

The former president specifically wanted one of the kind with internet access. Bolsonaro’s defense told the court that, even if the request was exclusively for this type of device, it would be intended for access to information, and not social networks.

“The right to information constitutes a direct expression of the dignity of the human person and is part of the minimum set of guarantees guaranteed to those in state custody,” said the defense.

Gonet assessed that the request is unreasonable, as the internet connection would make it impossible to control the use of social networks and communication with third parties.

In the document sent to the (Supreme Federal Court), Gonet also agrees with the demands for adherence to the program of reading activities to reduce sentences and for an inspection of the place of custody of prisoners at the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police by a representative of the Senate’s Commission on Human Rights and Legislative Participation, requested by the senator.

The former president wants to receive visits from Bishop Robson Rodovalho and pastor Thiago Araújo Manzoni. According to Gonet, they can only be received as religious leaders, and not as political agents.

For the granting of “religious assistance”, the defense cites the meetings that took place “without any incident being recorded” during the former president’s house arrest.
