Winter is a difficult time for plants, both those growing in the garden and those grown at home in pots. The heating season and the resulting dry, hot air in interiors have a negative impact on their condition. Plant leaves may wither, fall, the entire plant turn yellow or stop blooming.
Most of them go dormant in winter, but there are some that can look beautiful and grow wonderfully even at this time of year. All we need to do is help them appropriately. What Is it worth feeding potted plants in winter and how to do it properly? We give you a hint.
Not all plants go dormant in winter. Some of them can sprout new shoots even in January. All you need to do is take proper care of them and provide them with the right conditions for growth. The most important thing is a stable temperature and access to light – even artificial light. One such plant is the popular monstera, with characteristic, perforated leaves.
Most people believe that this plant only grows in spring and summer, but this is not true. Enough is enough it has access to light and is not exposed to drafts (do not place it on the windowsill in winter to prevent cold air from affecting it). Let’s also remember to wipe its leaves regularly to remove dust. Clean leaves will make much better use of sunlight.
Monstera should be fertilized in winter, but you cannot overdo it. It is enough to use fertilizer for green plants or a special preparation for monster once a month. The dose should be small so as not to burden the plant.
Zamioculcas is a popular potted plant that does well even in winter. It is quite resistant to drying out, thanks to its fleshy leaves that store water. It also does well in rooms with access to little sunlight.
Zamioculcas can grow new leaves even in winter, although this happens slower than in other plants. To slightly stimulate its growth, simply feed it with fertilizer for green plants or succulents. Let’s use it in a minimum dose, once every 6-8 weeks.

Epipremnum aureus is a popular potted plant that is quite resistant and extremely aesthetic. Its heart-shaped leaves are considered very decorative. If in winter the plant is placed in a bright place and has a constant temperature above 18 degrees Celsius, it does not go into dormancy. So it can grow calmly and sprout new shoots.
Just feed the plant with a gentle fertilizer for green plants, preferably in a liquid version. Use it in winter once every 4-6 weeks, using half the recommended dose. Golden Epipremnum also needs proper watering. Let’s do it in moderation, without overdoing it. Thanks to this, the plant will grow new leaves, decorating the house also in winter.
