These were the most popular games of the 80s: Every kid wanted to play them. Do you remember them all?

Are you upset that today’s youth are “lubricating” mobile games? But then, hand on heart – weren’t you the same? Think of the digital games of the former Czechoslovakia.

Around the 1980s, Japanese (as well as cheaper Soviet) digital games reached Czechoslovakia. They looked like simple pocket toys with an LCD display, a few buttons and a game plan that even a toddler could understand. The scenario was simple: run away from something, crash into something, or just jump over obstacles. Pleasant relaxation for a young soul who (at least for a while) forgot about school, parents and the sorrows of adolescence while playing games.

Banishers of boredom

The advantage of digital games was their small size (it was enough to put them in your pocket), portability and simple power supply, which managed two or four flat batteries. The good news was that it could keep smaller children, as well as teenagers, entertained for hours. That’s why this “digital friend” was a great companion during times of waiting at the doctor’s office or long car journeys on holiday by the sea.

Tuzex versus stock exchanges

The only catch was that if you wanted quality, you had to buy it (with vouchers) from Tuzex. Only there they offered tuned digital games from Japan or Western Europe. Cheaper Soviet IM Elektronik could be purchased in toy stores in Prague or Brno. But you could also find them at exchanges or markets, where even used models were sold at a fraction of the price. And which digital games were the most popular in their time?

Well, it sucks…

The Soviet “digi game” is inspired by the famous animated series Just wait, hares! Its plot takes place in a chicken coop, where a wolf catches eggs in a basket. At the same time, the hare throws hammers at him. A wolf has three to five lives. Once he runs out of them, the game is over. Otherwise, a fanfare will sound after 100 points.

Octopus

The game is called The Secret of the Ocean and is from 1986. The main character of the game is a diver who dives for a treasure at the bottom of the ocean. Little does he know that he will have a “living obstacle” there – an octopus that throws bombs at him… This game has an adrenaline rush and is based on speed, alertness and good timing.

Cooking is not boring! At least for the players of this digital game from the “eighties”. Its principle consists in throwing and catching pancakes on the pan. It seems simple at first, but once the intervals get faster, it’s downright wild.

The game as a great relaxation

According to psychologists, playing games is a great way to relax. A person clears his head, relaxes and relieves stress. At the same time, small achievements in the game also bring joy and satisfaction. And not only that! Being able to multitask also trains your attention and memory! And then play a game sometime…
