When the lights go out, Lula sanctions the 2026 Budget

President Lula had until this Wednesday to approve or veto the 2026 budget

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned this Wednesday (14) the budget for 2026. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Union in an extra session.. The deadline for sanctioning or vetoing the budget ended this Wednesday.

In the new budget, there is an increase in relation to the Union’s primary expenditure limit, which goes from R$2.24 trillion in 2025, to R$2.42 trillion in 2026. The base was corrected for inflation of 5.35% and the 2.5% percentage of real growth allowed by law.
