Oncologist Bruno Bereza detailed the last moments of Isabel Veloso’s life, in a video published on social media last Wednesday (14/1). The young influencer died at the age of 19, due to complications from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, on January 10th. According to the doctor, the young woman was very afraid about the bone marrow transplant.

In the publication, Bruno said that, on the eve of the surgery, he met with Isabel and her husband, Lucas Borbas, to clarify doubts and align expectations. “The day before she went to Curitiba, she, Lucas and I got together for a conversation. We explained everything, we talked about expectations. Isabel seemed quite scared, and I said that I would continue to accompany her and give her strength”, he said.

Even though she felt afraid of the transplant, the influencer supported herself in faith and demonstrated a great desire to live. “She prayed a lot. She had enormous strength, a clear objective: to be alive. That was what kept her in a good mood and willing to face everything”, said the oncologist.

After being discharged from the hospital, Isabel suffered respiratory arrest. She needed to be intubated and was admitted to the ICU. “She was no longer able to answer her cell phone very well, at the end of November or beginning of December, she was intubated. Then we obviously lost contact, I stayed more with Lucas and Joelson”, revealed Bruno.

According to the doctor, the condition was part of the post-transplant complications. He stated that Isabel’s health condition fluctuated greatly in the days leading up to her death. “On Saturday, the 3rd, she had a terrible day, we didn’t know she had minutes or hours to live, and on Sunday, when dawn came, she had an absurd improvement. Everything got better. On Monday, the 5th, her kidney started working again, her liver started working again, on Tuesday, the 6th, she was fine, on Wednesday, the 7th, she was fine, stable, on Thursday, the 8th, she got worse.”

“I went to the ICU, when I got there I thought I was going to find someone unrecognizable. I didn’t really know which bed she was in, I kept walking until I looked and said: ‘Wow, it’s Isabel'”, he says. The doctor spent around 30 to 40 minutes talking to her, even though she was sedated. “She was beautiful, the way she always was. She had a feeling of peace, a look of peace, not suffering,” he recalled.

After leaving the ICU, Bruno was called back while he was talking to Lucas and Joelson, Isabel’s father. “At that moment, I recognized the pattern. I turned to them and said, ‘Are you ready? The news is not good.” According to him, the influencer did not survive the cardiorespiratory arrest. “Doctor Gustavo reported that, shortly after I left, she developed bradycardia, her heart slowed down until it went into cardiac arrest, he said.

The oncologist concluded the report not only highlighting Isabel’s strength, but also the family’s unconditional support. “She will be missed, for sure. But this whole moment brought a lot of peace, she was always around people who loved her. She faced a lot of criticism, but she never lost the support of the people she loved.
