In an interview with The New York Times, Emilia reported that she felt grateful for the Covid-19 pandemic, as the health restrictions imposed at the time forced her to reflect on a troubled decade, marked by the two strokes she suffered and the death of her father in 2016.

“It was the first time in my professional life that I stopped. I faced a strong emotional crisis. It was almost as if the timing of the pandemic had been perfect. It forced me to answer questions that I probably could have put off for another 10 years,” she declared.

During the years she was in charge of the series, Emilia explained that there was no room for pauses or deeper reflections.

“During the program, there was never time to stop and think about the meaning of it all. I never had the grace to think, ‘You’re going to want to stop for a minute,'” he admitted.

“I definitely thought: ‘Starting in a TV series? I know exactly what that demand is like,'” he said.

Despite this, the actress felt more confident when she realized that she would have an active voice in the project, including being able to choose which of the two main characters she would like to play.

“I felt like they were giving me a voice, which doesn’t always happen. After , it took a long time for me to realize that I could try to have some control over my choices and my work. Much of my career didn’t reflect my personal taste, and I just accepted it. When you’re trying to carve out your space, the word ‘no’ isn’t part of your vocabulary. You just say ‘yes'”, he concluded.
